Wystawa jest finałem rezydencji artystycznej realizowanej we współpracy Fundacji Galerii Piana z Domem Utopii – Międzynarodowym Centrum Empatii oraz Kultur Land Steiermark w Grazu.

Praca artystyczna Beate Gatschelhofer (oni/ich) koncentruje się na reinterpretacji tradycyjnych procesów obróbki ceramiki i lirycznym podejściu do rzeźby. Beate testują i przesuwają granice materialności, eksperymentując z kolorami i przekształcając przedmioty codziennego użytku w motywy narracyjne. Badają, w jaki sposób konstrukcje materialne i językowe korelują ze sobą, a w swoich poetycko-abstrakcyjnych transkrypcjach dialogując kwestie tożsamości i lokalizacji. Beate Gatschelhofer podczas rezydencji podejmą próbę zmaterializowania efemerycznych śladów miasta poprzez ceramiczne formy balansujące między stabilnością a rozpadem. Ich praktyka, zakorzeniona w eksperymentach z kruchością, napięciem i deformacją, znajdzie tu nowy kontekst – w Nowej Hucie, miejscu naznaczonym utopijną wizją i jej erozją. Ich prace często czerpią z poezji i języka, przekształcając je w wieloelementowe kompozycje rzeźbiarskie, które balansują między abstrakcją a figuracją, wykorzystując niejednokrotnie przedmioty znalezione.

W Nowej Hucie podejmą próbę uchwycenia śladów emocjonalnych i historycznych zapisanych w miejskiej przestrzeni, reagując zarówno na jej architekturę, jak i niematerialne wartości tego miejsca. Kontekst historyczny, od awangardowych eksperymentów austriackich Wiener Werkstätte po funkcjonalność Warsztatów Krakowskich, stanie się tłem dla praktyki Beate, rezonując w podejściu do rzemiosła i ekspresyjnej formy. Kluczowe będzie jednak przetworzenie tych inspiracji w indywidualny, organiczny język ceramiczny, który nie odtwarza historii, lecz tworzy jej nową warstwę manifestując zainteresowania Gatschelhofer płynnością i zmiennością.

Beate Gatschelhofer (oni/ich) (*1994, żyją i pracują w Linz, Austria. Ich prace były prezentowane w Linz oraz Graz jak również na wielu grupowych pokazach w Austrii, Niemczech czy Litwie. Wybrane wystawy indywidualne: mit dem Pragmatismus einer Doppelmasche, Kunstverein Oberösterreich; Sein und Tun, HochSommer Fest.

The exhibition is the culmination of an artistic residency carried out in collaboration between the Piana Gallery Foundation, the House of Utopia – International Empathy Centre, and Kultur Land Steiermark in Graz. 

The artistic work of Beate Gatschelhofer (they/them) focuses on the reinterpretation of traditional ceramic processing techniques and a lyrical approach to sculpture. Beate tests and pushes the boundaries of materiality, experimenting with colors and transforming everyday objects into narrative motifs. They explore how material and linguistic constructs correlate, engaging in a poetic and abstract transcription that dialogues with questions of identity and place. During the residency, Beate Gatschelhofer will attempt to materialize the ephemeral traces of the city through ceramic forms that balance between stability and disintegration. Their practice, rooted in experimentation with fragility, tension, and deformation, will find a new context here – in Nowa Huta, a place marked by a utopian vision and its erosion. Their works often draw from poetry and language, transforming them into multi-element sculptural compositions that balance abstraction and figuration, often incorporating found objects.

In Nowa Huta, they will attempt to capture the emotional and historical traces inscribed in the urban space, responding to both its architecture and the intangible values of the place. The historical context – from the avant-garde experiments of the Austrian Wiener Werkstätte to the functionality of the Kraków Workshops – will form a backdrop for Beate’s practice, resonating in their approach to craft and expressive form. However, the key will be to transform these inspirations into an individual, organic ceramic language that does not recreate history but creates a new layer of it, manifesting Gatschelhofer’s interest in fluidity and transformation.

Beate Gatschelhofer (they/them) (*1994) lives and works in Linz, Austria. Their work has been presented in Linz and Graz, as well as in numerous group exhibitions in Austria, Germany, and Lithuania.
