W mar­cu i kwiet­niu 2026 roku Dom Uto­pii gości Marię Schne­ider, austriac­ką artyst­kę z Gra­zu, któ­ra reali­zu­je rezy­den­cję arty­stycz­ną w Pol­sce w ramach mię­dzy­na­ro­do­we­go pro­gra­mu „Ate­lier-Auslands­sti­pen­dien Land Ste­ier­mark”. Ini­cja­ty­wa ta wspie­ra mobil­ność arty­stycz­ną oraz roz­wój mło­dych twór­ców, umoż­li­wia­jąc im pra­cę w nowych kon­tek­stach kul­tu­ro­wych i nawią­zy­wa­nie trwa­łych rela­cji międzynarodowych.

Twór­czość Marii Schne­ider sku­pia się na rela­cjach mię­dzy prze­strze­nią, pamię­cią i struk­tu­ra­mi spo­łecz­ny­mi. Artyst­ka zaj­mu­je się głów­nie insta­la­cja­mi, sztu­ką obiek­to­wą i inter­wen­cja­mi site-spe­ci­fic, trak­tu­jąc archi­tek­tu­rę jako aktyw­ne­go współ­twór­cę zna­czeń. Inte­re­su­je ją, w jaki spo­sób insty­tu­cje poprzez aran­ża­cje prze­strzen­ne, regu­la­cje, rytu­ały i histo­rię kształ­tu­ją indy­wi­du­al­ne doświad­cze­nia. Jej pra­ce czę­sto opie­ra­ją się na sub­tel­nych inter­wen­cjach i mini­mal­nych zmia­nach, któ­re desta­bi­li­zu­ją usta­lo­ne sys­te­my i ujaw­nia­ją leżą­ce u ich pod­staw napięcia.

W swo­jej twór­czo­ści Schne­ider bada momen­ty przej­ścia mię­dzy wnę­trzem a zewnę­trzem, sfe­rą pry­wat­ną a publicz­ną, ofi­cjal­ną a intym­ną. Zamiast kon­stru­ować spek­ta­ku­lar­ne nar­ra­cje, pro­po­nu­je uważ­ną lek­tu­rę miej­sca. Anga­żu­je się w archi­tek­to­nicz­ne deta­le, gesty i mate­ria­ły nazna­czo­ne użyt­ko­wa­niem. Jej pro­jek­ty są czę­sto opar­te na pro­ce­sie, roz­wi­ja­ją się w cza­sie, reagu­ją na kon­tekst i pozo­sta­ją otwar­te na dia­log z oto­cze­niem. Rezy­den­cja w Domu Uto­pii sta­ła się dla Artyst­ki prze­strze­nią eks­pe­ry­men­tów, spo­tkań, stu­dio­wa­nia prze­strze­ni mia­sta i inten­syw­nej obser­wa­cji. Punk­tem wyj­ścia była aktu­al­na sytu­acja poli­tycz­na, histo­ria miej­sca, oraz jego funk­cjo­no­wa­nie jako insty­tu­cji kultury.

Maria Schne­ider (*26.06.1992, Graz) jest artyst­ką wizu­al­ną, któ­rej pra­ce oscy­lu­ją wokół tema­ty­ki pro­ce­sów emo­cjo­nal­nych i kwe­stii spo­łecz­nych oraz jej wła­sne­go miej­sca w tym kon­tek­ście. W 2011 roku ukoń­czy­ła kie­ru­nek foto­gra­fii i sztu­ki mul­ti­me­dial­nej w HTBLu­VA Ortwe­in­scho­ol w Gra­zu, a w 2017 roku – stu­dia magi­ster­skie z rzeź­by. Jej pro­jekt dyplo­mo­wy został nagro­dzo­ny sty­pen­dium ini­cja­ty­wy kul­tu­ral­nej Kür­bis Wies. Jej prak­ty­ka poru­sza się mię­dzy insta­la­cją, rzeź­bą, fil­mem, foto­gra­fią, gra­fi­ką, malar­stwem i dźwię­kiem. Postrze­ga­nie i obser­wa­cja sie­bie oraz oto­cze­nia, a tak­że pra­ce site-spe­ci­fic sta­no­wią pod­sta­wę jej twór­czo­ści arty­stycz­nej, któ­ra zapro­wa­dzi­ła ją już do Chor­wa­cji, Bel­gii, Nie­miec, Nowe­go Jor­ku i Hisz­pa­nii. W swo­ich pra­cach zaj­mu­je się psy­chi­ką, a tak­że pre­sją spo­łecz­ną oraz sty­mu­lo­wa­niem dys­kur­su na temat ist­nie­ją­cych sys­te­mów i struk­tur spo­łecz­nych. Zachę­ca widzów do zgłę­bia­nia zło­żo­no­ści wła­snych prze­strze­ni wewnętrz­nych oraz do kry­tycz­ne­go myśle­nia i kwe­stio­no­wa­nia wła­snej pozycji.

Od 2015 roku jest człon­ki­nią sto­wa­rzy­sze­nia arty­stycz­ne­go „ROTER KEIL” z Gra­zu, gdzie obec­nie pro­wa­dzi rów­nież swo­ją pra­cow­nię. W 2020 roku otrzy­ma­ła sty­pen­dium twór­cze w dzie­dzi­nie sztuk wizu­al­nych od Depar­ta­men­tu Kul­tu­ry Kra­ju Związ­ko­we­go Sty­ria, a w 2023 roku – sty­pen­dium zagra­nicz­ne w dzie­dzi­nie sztuk wizu­al­nych i fil­mu przy­zna­ne przez tę samą instytucję.

In March and April 2026, Dom Uto­pii hosts Maria Schne­ider, an Austrian artist from Graz, who is under­ta­king an arti­stic resi­den­cy in Poland as part of the inter­na­tio­nal Ate­lier-Auslands­sti­pen­dien Land Ste­ier­mark pro­gram. This ini­tia­ti­ve sup­ports arti­stic mobi­li­ty and the deve­lop­ment of emer­ging arti­sts by ena­bling them to work in new cul­tu­ral con­te­xts and build lasting inter­na­tio­nal relationships.

Maria Schneider’s prac­ti­ce focu­ses on the rela­tion­ships betwe­en spa­ce, memo­ry, and social struc­tu­res. She works pri­ma­ri­ly with instal­la­tion, object-based art, and site-spe­ci­fic inte­rven­tions, tre­ating archi­tec­tu­re as an acti­ve co-cre­ator of meaning. She is inte­re­sted in how insti­tu­tions thro­ugh spa­tial arran­ge­ments, regu­la­tions, ritu­als, and histo­ries sha­pe indi­vi­du­al expe­rien­ce. Her works often rely on sub­tle inte­rven­tions and mini­mal shi­fts that desta­bi­li­ze esta­bli­shed sys­tems and reve­al the­ir under­ly­ing tensions.

In her work, Schne­ider explo­res moments of trans­i­tion betwe­en inte­rior and exte­rior, pri­va­te and public, offi­cial and inti­ma­te. Rather than con­struc­ting spec­ta­cu­lar nar­ra­ti­ves, she pro­po­ses a care­ful reading of pla­ce. She enga­ges with archi­tec­tu­ral deta­ils, gestu­res, and mate­rials mar­ked by use. Her pro­jects are often pro­cess-based, unfol­ding over time, respon­ding to con­text, and rema­ining open to dia­lo­gue with the­ir surroundings.

The resi­den­cy at Dom Uto­pii beco­mes a spa­ce for expe­ri­men­ta­tion and clo­se observation. 

Maria Schne­ider (*26.06.1992, Graz) is a visu­al artist who­se works deal with emo­tio­nal pro­ces­ses and social issu­es and her own exi­sten­ce within them. She com­ple­ted the class for pho­to­gra­phy and mul­ti­me­dia art at the HTBLu­VA Ortwe­in­scho­ol for art and design in Graz in 2011 and the masterc­lass for sculp­tu­re in 2017, with her final pro­ject being awar­ded a scho­lar­ship from the Kür­bis Wies cul­tu­ral ini­tia­ti­ve. Her prac­ti­ce moves betwe­en instal­la­tion, sculp­tu­re, film, pho­to­gra­phy, gra­phics, pain­ting and sound. The per­cep­tion and obse­rva­tion of her­self and her sur­ro­un­dings as well as site-spe­ci­fic work serve as the basis of her arti­stic work, which has alre­ady taken her to Cro­atia, Bel­gium, Ger­ma­ny, New York and Spa­in. In her works, she deals with the psy­che as well as social pres­su­re and the sti­mu­la­tion of disco­ur­se abo­ut exi­sting social sys­tems and struc­tu­res. She invi­tes vie­wers to explo­re the com­ple­xi­ty of the­ir own inte­rior spa­ces and to trig­ger cri­ti­cal thin­king and the questio­ning of the­ir own position.

She is a mem­ber of the Gra­zer art asso­cia­tion “ROTER KEIL” @roter_keil sin­ce 2015, whe­re she cur­ren­tly also runs her stu­dio. In 2020 she rece­ived the wor­king scho­lar­ship for visu­al arts from the Land Ste­ier­mark, Cul­tu­re Depart­ment and in 2023 and the abro­ad scho­lar­ship for visu­al arts and film from the Land Ste­ier­mark, Cul­tu­re Department.
