Beate Gat­schel­ho­fer pod­czas rezy­den­cji podej­mą pró­bę zma­te­ria­li­zo­wa­nia efe­me­rycz­nych śla­dów mia­sta poprzez cera­micz­ne for­my balan­su­ją­ce mię­dzy sta­bil­no­ścią a roz­pa­dem. Ich prak­ty­ka, zako­rze­nio­na w eks­pe­ry­men­tach z kru­cho­ścią, napię­ciem i defor­ma­cją, znaj­dzie tu nowy kon­tekst – w Nowej Hucie, miej­scu nazna­czo­nym uto­pij­ną wizją i jej ero­zją. Ich pra­ce czę­sto czer­pią z poezji i języ­ka, prze­kształ­ca­jąc je w wie­lo­ele­men­to­we kom­po­zy­cje rzeź­biar­skie, któ­re balan­su­ją mię­dzy abs­trak­cją a figu­ra­cją, wyko­rzy­stu­jąc nie­jed­no­krot­nie przed­mio­ty znalezione.

W Nowej Hucie podej­mą pró­bę uchwy­ce­nia śla­dów emo­cjo­nal­nych i histo­rycz­nych zapi­sa­nych w miej­skiej prze­strze­ni, reagu­jąc zarów­no na jej archi­tek­tu­rę, jak i nie­ma­te­rial­ne war­to­ści tego miej­sca. Kon­tekst histo­rycz­ny, od awan­gar­do­wych eks­pe­ry­men­tów austriac­kich Wie­ner Werk­stät­te po funk­cjo­nal­ność Warsz­ta­tów Kra­kow­skich, sta­nie się tłem dla prak­ty­ki Beate, rezo­nu­jąc w podej­ściu do rze­mio­sła i eks­pre­syj­nej for­my. Klu­czo­we będzie jed­nak prze­two­rze­nie tych inspi­ra­cji w indy­wi­du­al­ny, orga­nicz­ny język cera­micz­ny, któ­ry nie odtwa­rza histo­rii, lecz two­rzy jej nową war­stwę mani­fe­stu­jąc zain­te­re­so­wa­nia Gat­schel­ho­fer płyn­no­ścią i zmiennością.

Beate Gat­schel­ho­fer (oni/ich) (*1994), żyją i pra­cu­ją w Linz, Austria. Ich pra­ce były pre­zen­to­wa­ne w Linz oraz Graz jak rów­nież na wie­lu gru­po­wych poka­zach w Austrii, Niem­czech czy Litwie. Wybra­ne wysta­wy indy­wi­du­al­ne: mit dem Prag­ma­ti­smus einer Dop­pel­ma­sche, Kun­stve­re­in Obe­röster­re­ich; Sein und Tun, Hoch­Som­mer Fest.

Rezy­den­cja arty­stycz­na reali­zo­wa­na we współ­pra­cy Fun­da­cji Gale­rii Pia­na z Domem Uto­pii – Mię­dzy­na­ro­do­wym Cen­trum Empa­tii oraz Kul­tur Land Ste­ier­mark w Grazu. 

Spo­tka­nie orga­ni­zo­wa­ne we współ­pra­cy z Wydzia­łem Malar­stwa ASP w Krakowie.

We invi­te you to a meeting with Beate Gat­schel­ho­fer, cur­rent artist in resi­den­ce in Uto­pia Home, whe­re we will hear abo­ut the­ir arti­stic prac­ti­ce and cur­rent project.

Beate Gatschelhofer’s (they/them) arti­stic prac­ti­ce focu­ses on rein­ter­pre­ting tra­di­tio­nal cera­mic pro­ces­sing tech­ni­qu­es and a lyri­cal appro­ach to sculp­tu­re. They explo­re and push the boun­da­ries of mate­ria­li­ty, expe­ri­men­ting with colors and trans­for­ming eve­ry­day objects into nar­ra­ti­ve motifs. Beate inve­sti­ga­tes how mate­rial and lin­gu­istic con­structs cor­re­la­te, using poetic and abs­tract trans­crip­tions to enga­ge in dia­lo­gu­es aro­und iden­ti­ty and place.

During the­ir resi­den­cy, Beate will attempt to mate­ria­li­ze the ephe­me­ral tra­ces of the city thro­ugh cera­mic forms balan­cing betwe­en sta­bi­li­ty and decay. The­ir prac­ti­ce, rooted in expe­ri­ments with fra­gi­li­ty, ten­sion, and defor­ma­tion, finds a new con­text here – in Nowa Huta, a pla­ce mar­ked by a uto­pian vision and its erosion.

The­ir work often draws from poetry and lan­gu­age, trans­for­ming it into mul­ti-part sculp­tu­ral com­po­si­tions that hover betwe­en abs­trac­tion and figu­ra­tion, fre­qu­en­tly incor­po­ra­ting found objects. In Nowa Huta, they aim to cap­tu­re emo­tio­nal and histo­ri­cal imprints embed­ded in the urban spa­ce, respon­ding to both its archi­tec­tu­re and the intan­gi­ble valu­es of the place.

The histo­ri­cal con­text – from the avant-gar­de expe­ri­ments of Austria’s Wie­ner Werk­stät­te to the func­tio­na­li­ty of the Kra­kow Work­shops – will serve as a back­drop for Beate’s prac­ti­ce, reso­na­ting in the­ir appro­ach to craft and expres­si­ve form. Howe­ver, the key will be trans­for­ming the­se inspi­ra­tions into a per­so­nal, orga­nic cera­mic lan­gu­age that does not repli­ca­te histo­ry, but inste­ad cre­ates a new lay­er of it – mani­fe­sting Gatschelhofer’s inte­rest in flu­idi­ty and change.

The­ir works have been exhi­bi­ted in Linz and Graz, as well as in vario­us gro­up shows in Austria, Ger­ma­ny, and Lithu­ania. Selec­ted solo exhi­bi­tions inc­lu­de mit dem Prag­ma­ti­smus einer Dop­pel­ma­sche at Kun­stve­re­in Obe­röster­re­ich and Sein und Tun at Hoch­Som­mer Fest.

The artist resi­den­cy is car­ried out in col­la­bo­ra­tion betwe­en the Pia­na Gal­le­ry Foun­da­tion, Uto­pia Home – Inter­na­tio­nal Empa­thy Cen­tre (Dom Uto­pii), and Kul­tur Land Ste­ier­mark in Graz.

The meeting is orga­ni­zed in coope­ra­tion with the Facul­ty of Pain­ting at the Aca­de­my of Fine Arts in Kraków.
